Maravu resort staff was very helpful to us including Kara and Lavinia.

Bure was very large and spacious with hardwood floors and large rooms and the towels provided were nice and thick.

However, If you're considering staying there you may want to consider the concerns I've noted below:

The Bure we stayed in for 5 nights was filthy and many places in it had fresh evidence of ants and spider webs. It was so dirty that we considered detail cleaning it ourselves with Lysol and a mop. However, we decided to ask the staff to clean it again. After they cleaned it, the room was still extremely dirty and the spider webs were still there.

Because we could never get the Bure to an acceptable state of cleanliness and the furniture was filthy, we searched in vain everyday for a clean place to set down our bags. Finally, the windows in our room were glass louvers and many of them were broken to a point where I thought we might not be able to close them completely for security reasons without breaking the glass in therm.

The main dining and lounge areas weren't clean either and did not have any gluten free options. As a result, we only ate there the first day and always ate somewhere else after that.

When we arrived, we were also informed that the resort was generating their own electricity using a diesel generator and that they would be regularly turning off the power ever day we were there during the hours from 10AM to 4PM. This daily power shut off caused the temperature in our Bure to soar and put our groceries in the refrigerator at risk of spoiling. However the most disappointing thing to us about these power outages was that we didn't know about this situation until we arrived and the fact that the resort staff told us that all resorts on the island shut of their generators at the same time they did everyday. Something that we later found out was false from tourists we met on Taveuni who were staying elsewhere.

The resort also has a lot of grass in between the Bures and they do not use lawn mowers to cut that grass quickly. Instead, 4-5 men walked around and cut the grass using gas powered string trimmers producing enough noise to wake the dead for 4-5 hours - something made worse by the daily power generator shutoff and the fact that we had to keep the windows open in the Bure to keep it cooler.

Finally, unfortunately like many resorts in Fiji, the Maravu does not have safes in the Bure so we had to keep our valuables in a locked filing cabinet in the main office. Fortunately nothing was stolen but it was discouraging to have to carry our valuables around with us most of the time.

Stayed here for 3 nights and had an excellent time. We stayed in the treehouse (don't stay in this Bure if you have mobility problems, or don't like the idea of 77 stairs in the heat) and enjoyed ourselves, the rooms are basic but comfortable, more rugged than a resort but great value for money. Food was good and reasonably priced. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Pool was clean and refreshing. Would recommend.

This is an ex-resort turned into an affordable boutique hostel, but honestly i wouldn't even call it a hostel except the fact that they offer the dorm room style accomodations.what made our experience truly memorable was the staff. Mariana and Zac became our friends during our stay. Mariana was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed and offered/suggested activites and expereinces.
Mateo was the cool surfer/fisherman on site. He offered his knowledge on the area and made adventure suggestions.if i am to travel to Taveuni again this will be where i stay

Marauvu was a dream come true! Mariana and her husband Sakeo welcomed us so warmly and took care of us every step of our trip. They called taxis for us or drove us to adventures and gave us recommendations. Their energy and kindness made every day incredible. We even caught a fish and they filleted it and cooked us an entire dinner. The rooms were lovely, with a perfect view, easy walk to the beach and easy to get around. If you stay here make sure to connect with Mariana and Sakeo and you’ll have the best time ever!

We loved our 5 nights here. The staff was wonderful and always helpful. To be more eco-friendly, the hotel cuts power to rooms from 11-4. Nevertheless there was always a place to charge devices in the lounge and the WiFi was reliable there too (we rarely got WiFi in our room when the power was on). You can walk from the airport to the hotel, but a cab only costs $5 (FD). We dove 3 days with Tavenui Ocean Sports, it was great, we got picked up and dropped off at Maravu. The staff can organize tours for you, you also have other tour options (like with Ocean Sports). I encourage those traveling here to take tours and visit/see the villages in the area. Food was excellent but we also loved eating at the Dive Cafe. Vinaka vaka levu Cali, Kara, Rafa, Zach, Tom, and all the other staff. Thank you for sharing your home and making our stay memorable. Sota tale!

Great location for a holiday. We very much enjoyed our stay at Maravu. The island of Taveuni used to be a backpackers’ paradise, but now mostly caters to upmarket resort customers. In contrast, Maravu was set up as a resort a while ago but has not been significantly upscaled. Hence, it is one of the few remaining accommodation options on Taveuni that won’t set you back thousands. Maravu provides for a range of budgets with 2 backpacker dorms and spacious bures with great views. We did not mind the intermittent electricity. This is about to change as an island power network is being built. The staff are friendly and relaxed. The place works for tourists who want to get more into Fiji time and connect with the local ways of doing things, such as kava sessions, singing and village visits.
Travelling in Fiji is not cheap, but that is kind of understandable given the costs of running tourism operations in remote places and due to tourism/service taxes and an environment levy (to mitigate tourism impacts). The upside is that Fiji is not a carbon copy of mass tourism elsewhere, so there is an opportunity for unique experiences to enjoy today and hopefully in a sustainable future.:)

Amazing experience in the dorm in Maravu, the dorm it's really ok for the price in the island, the lodge is really close to an amazing coffee and dive center. Central place in the island close to the airport. I recommend for the backpacker!

We spent a week at the resort. Greeted my extremely friendly staff. Made us feel at home immediately and we’re always available to help answer any questions, suggestions, arrange transportation. The power is turned off from 11: 30-4, but we were diving most days during those hours so if wasn’t an inconvenience.
Located a few minutes from the airport and not far from Somosomo (take a car/taxi/shuttle, not a walk).
Food was decent. No complaints.
I’ll be going back to Taveuni sooner then later and wouldn’t hesitate to stay at the resort again!

Great location close by the airport, supermarket, restaurants and sea. Highly recommend eating ice cream from a nearby foodstand. The staff are super friendly and nice people, they make you feel at home immediately. Good place to meet other travellers, I made amazing friends there and had a great time!

A decent budget spot to base your adventure out of on Taveuni - we opted for a private burre with a garden view and it was alright. Be warned - the property runs off a generator so there is 0 power from 10am-ish until about 4pm-ish (it was never actually on at 4 when we visited)

Pros:
Location - you're right near the airport, Tramanto, Salt Diver, and the markets
The vibe - it fits the island perfectly, a bunch of Burres all over a palm spotted property with a natural looking pool and view of the ocean.
Easy check in/check out - they even held our luggage no problem when we arrived early
Super friendly staff - so helpful and kind with anything we needed or questions we had

Cons:
Limited/no hot water - when the power was on we didn't always have hot water, it was usually alright but the last morning we had nothing at all.
Wifi - they advertise that they have it available anytime the generator is on (4pm ish to 10am ish) but it wasn't always working and required a bit of calling back and forth
Dingy towels - we got a single towel for the 2 of us to share and it smelled of mildew from the minute we got it, we asked for another but had to eventually go to the desk and wait for them to physically give us one there.
AC - okay so it's a jungle resort, we get it this is definitely a 1st world complaint, but it's positioned in a weird way to provide 0 comfort to occupants. This was remedied when I realized we could turn the ceiling fan to max speed and that helped relieve the heat and musty feel immediately.but it was still underpowered

If you're looking budget, this works, but be prepared for what you're booking. It's not a 5 star resort and there will be bugs in your room.pack the bug spray and be prepared.

On request Lisa (service desk) helped us get the tree house I was dying for and trust me it was mesmerising from up there. Jolliest people you will come across will definitely recommend here. Oni (kitchen staff) also helped me in getting vegetarian food after lunch hours.
Aesthetically rooms are top notch just please be prepared to see some lizards here and there (they don’t do anything)

I solo travelled and would 100% recommand Maravu.

I stayed in the 8 beds dorm. And I was not desapointed by the resort

Keep in mind that is not à high end resort, but a laid back place with affordable beds and bures, where it is clean, the staff wonderfull, and the service and food good.

If you are looking for a 5 stars hotel all inclusive, this is may be not for you. But it offered every thing I could ask for:)

The people working in Maravu are gold! They really take time to sit and talk to you. We were invited to a Kava evening, and fresh coconuts that grow on the property are up for grabs. The power gets turned off during the day, because the location is off the grid, but there is a lot of activities to do around and the staff will always help organizing. Taveuni is a beautiful island to explore. The bures are very spacious and we had an in- and outdoor shower.

A few dive shops and cafés are a 5 min walk away, right next to the beach and a lovely little restaurant with a beautiful view. Go there for sunset and pre-order lobster there if you can! It was a perfect place to relax your soul.

We booked a private Bure in the first week of January and did not have a good experience. There's no power from 10 am to 4 pm which was informed to us for the first time on checkin. How is one supposed to relax here during summer without power? The ceiling fan in the room barely moved and AC did not work. They had a couple of people check the AC but it was pointless. They did not give us a different room nor did they give us any refunds. Had a very very hard time sleeping but luckily we were to checkout the next day. Friendly staff and proximity to the airport are the only redeeming factors of this hotel. Food is expensive and average, did not expect better honestly.

It serves the purpose - had a 4 bed dorm which was cheap and clean. It has a working AC and was perfectly close to the WI-FI which might or not be working. Don’t expect too much service or the Fijian hospitality but is the only budget option bookable via booking

I stayed in the dorm, it was clean, shower & toilet was not connected to the room & was not that great but i dont hang out there too long. Room has power at night only, there is A/C. 5 minutes walk to the beach.

Good place if you stayed in a villa. Power stops at 10am and comes back online at 4pm. Everyone was super friendly and had great recommendations on what to do on the island. We online had a night there but the sunset even from the gardens are lovely. Food was ok. Nothing 'local' though, all international dishes. Location was good distance to either side of the island.

My partner and I stayed here a total of 4 nights and we were welcomed so warmly and felt like family. Lavenia and Rafa helped us with any questions we had (around Covid tests) and gave any recommendations for activities near by. Irene and her husband (own the restaurant inside) were so kind and fed us so well. The food was simply amazing (the best we had in Fiji!) every time, with the beef and rice reminiscent of my mum’s beef! How joyous it was to have a wave if nostalgia while in Taveuni!

AJ (our driver who is literally minutes away from the lodge) was such a kind, happy and helpful man. He droves us to all places we wanted to go and provided us laughs and interesting facts the whole way!) very likely you’ll be in his taxi as the staff all know him and will likely call him if needed. The rooms were clean and spacious with fresh towels and sheets every day. I’d encourage anyone to stay here as it’s located perfectly next to the beach, salt dive shop (must go!) and Tromonto’s near by.
Thank you again for all your hospitality and support!

We stayed here only a week but it felt like we got adopted by a family. All of the staff is extremely helpful and always cheerful. We got to meet some amazing people here. Also the location couldn't be more perfect, 5 minute from the airport, 20 minute from the village and waterfalls just a short drive away. Special shout-out to AJ our taxi driver! He made everything possible for us, even on very short notice. We asked him if he could help us out with a trip to a very remote waterfall, only accessible by boat, and he got it fixed that same morning we called him. AJ you are the best, and to everyone at Maravu VINAKA VAKA LEVU!
