Boathouse Nanuya

Outrageous. I had some big problems in Fiji that made me very stressed. Eventually I was helped and told at Lautoka warf that they would take me to Nanuya for free. Super nice! Once at Nanunya I was pressured to pay, in my opinion way too much, almost 200 fiji dollars. These people were very rude and I was even laughed at at the fact that I was crying in stress earlier that day. Rude people and regret that I just paid while I was told earlier that it would be free because of the situation. This high price wasn't told me at all.

Boathouse Nanuya is the budget a/c option in the Yasawas. The experienced traveler who realizes you go places to do activities and sleep well (a/c) is going to like it here. You get free use of the neighboring (very close, ~150 ft) Nanuya Resort lounge chairs (wish they sat up higher though as other guests all mentioned), and the guided snorkelling is excellent. Caves were fun too, mostly the echoes in the second chamber.

No beach directly in front of Nanuya, but snorkelling next to resorts is always mediocre (guided is best), and at high tide it's a short (free) kayak ride to Blue Lagoon beach, and at low tide (early morning) it's a 10 minute walk any day but Tuesday, when you can't go because a cruise operator owns it and anchors a large vessel full of tourists all day/night. Btw, the movie Blue Lagoon was filmed half at the beach next to Nanuya, half at the beach in front of Oarsman's/Blue Lagoon, so both locations have a legitimate claim. The lack of beach at Nanuya is hardly noticeable since you do have the shaded (huge plus) loungers with the ocean 5-10 ft in front. I just wish the loungers sat upright.

Some small issues include lots of activity at the shop, loading tons supplies nearly every day, coconut oil production, etc, but you only see that when walking between Boathouse and the main Nanuya. A bit noisey/busy there, but only during the day, and again, this is the good value/budget option for a/c, so it's worth it for experienced hot weather travelers who like a/c.

Staff are excellent. Maria, Doge, Vilimoni, Derrick, and many others. Nightly serenades by local musicians at dinner were great. Owners had a lot on their plate while I was there, but I did see them a bit and even helped with a little mechanical issue one night. Overall this was a good stay, and I'll likely be back.

I went to Oarsman's after this and paid a lot more for an Ocean View bure, but it had no mini fridge, no coffee/tea station in the room, and no large water bottles in the room like Boathouse had. Nanuya's dinner is at 6: 30pm which is a bit late for me (wish it was 5: 30pm), but it was better than Oarsman's 7pm. I enjoyed Nanuya's meals almosy as much as Oarsman's, and even preferred Nanuya's sweeter desserts.

Room a touch rundown after Covid. Excellent staff, good food and a beautiful location. The shore fishing is also excellent.

Pros
Not more than 100m to the blue lagoon which has a lovely beach and clear blue water with some snorkelling opportunities.
Free kayaks, SUP and snorkelling gear.

Cons
We opted to stay in the budget part of the hotel, room was fair, but the window view was onto hotel back of service area. Compared to the other price comparable accommodation we stayed at during our yasawa trip (barefoot in a dorm  and mantaray bay in jungle bure) I would not recommend boathouse nanuya budget accommodation.
No actually beach to enjoy right in front of the hotel (but blue lagoon wasn't far)
Out of the 3 places we stayed on the yasawas we found the food could be improved, also there were different menus depending on where you were staying in their hotel.
Breakfast on offer was rather poor

Took a boat trip through here to buy some stuff for our picnic at the Blue Lagoon Beach. Drinks are slightly high priced and not to be taken put of the boathouse.sadly. The quaint supermarket in it has snacks and eats we needed for the picnic.

BUYER BEWARE! This place is knowingly running a scam based on false advertising. Their website advertises a lot of different ways to get there, which do not actually exist every day or at all during some times the year. But they won’t tell you this unless YOU ask THEM over several weeks worth of emails. They take 7 days to even reply to your first email— with incomplete information— so you have to keep asking the same question over multiple emails before they give you enough information for you to figure out it won’t actually be possible for you to get to their island. The scam part is they wait to reveal the key information until AFTER your free cancellation period has passed, so they can keep your cancellation fee!

This means if every guest doesn't persist in proactively asking them how to get there, you could end up stranded on your check-in day with no way to get there, no place booked to sleep that night, AND no refund!

After 1 month of emailing, they never apologized for the incorrect information on their website and still have not corrected it or even said they will correct it. So they KNOW they are false advertising and creating a situation that could leave people stranded, and they’re happy to keep doing it so they can keep your cancellation fee

This is an amazing location if you want to turn off your phone, relax and enjoy calm remote island. It was mostly honeymooners, couples and handful of single travelers. Staff is super friendly, singing and making sure you have a good time. Boathouse is a secondary built to Nanuya Resort, but rooms are very good and you can use the resort services and dining so it is a great value. I loved Blue Lagoon beach where you get time alone. You can also snorkel, kayak around, get a massage or visit caves. It is a very remote place so don’t expect you can find everything here. Most of stuff is brought from the main island daily. You get a mealplan and food is good for Fiji standards, grilled snapper was amazing! Everything is very relaxing which you appreciate here. However, you do not appreciate it during transfers in case you need to catch a plane or another boat. 2hrs transfer took 4hrs each time because of delays and wait times so allow a time buffer, get yourself a coffee or cocktail

Absolutely loved this place. Staff was super friendly. Food was amazing and I wanted to drink the whole cocktail menu. The Blue Lagoon is simply breathtaking. You'd love staying here

Please dont go here. They stole money from my room and I had the impression that the owner didnt really care about it. They way he treated me as a guest was disrepectful and not okay at all! NO SORRY, NOTHING. If thats the way how he treats his guest, he really should think about leaving. Also how he treats the staff is horrible! I have never seen something as bad as the guy who runs this place. I am very disapointed and cant recommend this place. I hope people will read this and avoid this stay. The beach isnt even infront of you.in addition to that, everything costs extra and is overpriced. I dont understand why so many people recommend this place. You wont get the feeling of a fijian atmosphere. For the money you spend here, you can get much better offers. I regret coming here and will never come back!

It's one of the finest places to stay in Nanuya. Very nice and clean. And the food in just so delicious!
